Seven Benefits of Wheatgrass
Me enjoying my morning wheatgrass juice with apple juice.
1 - High in Vitamin C – we all know that citrus fruits contain large amounts of vitamin C, yet interestingly Wheatgrass Juice contains just as much as a large orange. Vitamin C helps the skin, teeth, gums, eyes, muscles and joints.
2 - It is high in antioxidants – antioxidants help to protect us against free radicals that we find in our food and environment. Ingesting antioxidants help to protect us against disease.
3 - High in Vitamin A – if you were even just adding dried Wheatgrass powder to your smoothies you would be taking the same amount of Vitamin A as you would find in a carrots and kale. The Vitamin A found in Wheatgrass is Provitamin A, known as carotene, which is harmless in any amount. Vitamin A is essential for normal growth and development, good eyesight and reproduction. It helps keep brittle bones, dry skin and infection at bay too. Go Wheatgrass!
4 - Helps fight stress - Yes, you read correctly. Wheatgrass juice contains B vitamins which help to energise us and aid the nervous and digestive systems. Having a steady flow of B vitamins help us to handle physical and mental stress.
5 - Helps to protect the heart – Wheatgrass is high in Vitamin E which is a fat-soluble vitamin. Without enough Vitamins E we could suffer from muscle degeneration, sterility and slow wound healing. The natural state of the Vitamin E found in Wheatgrass juice is about ten times more easily assimilated by the body than synthetic E (I could easily rant about this but I will leave this for another time).
6 - It alkalises the blood pH balance – After studying the alkaline diet, pH balance is something I am passionate about, especially if my clients show signs of inflammation. Wheatgrass is full of alkaline minerals such as magnesium, potassium and calcium. The calcium found in Wheatgrass is easily absorbed by the body without causing any negative impact. Therefore, using Wheatgrass as a source of calcium can help with arthritis, rheumatism, muscle cramps or tingling of the extremities. Calcium isn’t properly absorbed by the body if there is a lack of trace minerals to help the body deposit it where it is needed.
7 - Seventeen, yes seventeen Amino Acids found in Wheatgrass – Amino Acids are our building blocks found in proteins. There are eight essential amino acids, but twenty-two in total: Wheatgrass has Seventeen of them! These range from helping us to stay alert, body growth and blood circulation, to calming nerves, healthy skin, balancing hormones, stimulating digestion and balancing metabolism. Simply put, it pretty powerful juice!
There is so much more that could be said about this chlorophyll juice – why not try it for yourself?
I absolutely LOVE the frozen Wheatgrass juice I get from Britt’s Superfoods. It’s organically grown in the UK and pre-juiced before being frozen in little sachets. I simply pop one in lukewarm water each morning, add a little fresh juice and drink it. I even have one in the afternoon when I need a pick-me-up.
